My "Super-Food" list - And why it's very important to stick to your own list...?

Food, food, food... it's everywhere! Being able to buy 🛒 all sorts of food anywhere is now a big thing. You're constantly tempted to choose from every little corner—but that’s a bit of a misleading option. Why? Because you're allowing your brain to push you into grabbing that 'little snack' or 'easy-to-grab' food or container...

Compared to ages and centuries ago, that wasn’t possible. If we go back to the 'Cavemen’ era, men had to hunt, and women had to gather all sorts of available fruits, vegetables, herbs, or anything else that could be edible for us, human beings.

Nowadays, we can find food in every corner of the planet —or to be more realistic, in areas where infrastructure, electricity, and technology are nearby. And that can be a problem too, because there are so many choices, so many brands, and it can easily take you off your list of real food intake and lead you off-road 🚧.

Of course, what I’m writing here might jeopardize my own business 😅, but my point is: because we have so many choices, our judgment or selections can either go in the right or wrong direction.

For me, after starting and maintaining my journey of eating more nutrient-dense, wholesome food prepared at home —and avoiding most processed foods with “no-bueno” ingredients —I’ve become very conscious about what I choose to eat.

That’s why I came up with this article: to share how to stick to your own “Super-Food” list at home, and how to manage it when going out shopping —always keeping in mind what should be in your fridge or pantry.

In my case, I like to keep food simple, and I know I’ll stick to it. So, here’s my personal “Raquel's Super-Food” list and why I like to keep it stocked consciously:

  1. 🥜 Nuts & Seeds (for obvious reasons, and for healthy fats and crunch)

  2. 🥣 Greek Yogurt – protein-packed and versatile

  3. 🍓 Berries – blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or seasonal fruits

  4. 🥑 Avocados – creamy, nutritious, and satisfying

  5. 🥚 Eggs – nature’s protein bombs

  6. 🐟 Fish – salmon, tuna, sardines (when possible)

  7. 🥩 Bio/Organic Beef, Chicken, or Pork

  8. 🧀 Swiss Cheese (because, yes, I live in Switzerland )

  9. 🫒 Extra Virgin Olive Oil – liquid gold

  10. 🥬 Leafy Greens and Seasonal Vegetables – always fresh

  11. 🫘 Legumes – chickpeas, beans, lentils

  12. 🌾 Whole Grains – dark/brown wheat bread, oats, quinoa, couscous, basmati or jasmine rice

  13. 🍠 Complex Carbs – sweet potatoes, and yes, pasta too

  14. 🧂 Spices – sea salt, pink Himalayan salt, garlic, turmeric, ginger, paprika, cinnamon, cumin, or any other to enhance your food preparation

  15. 🌿 Herbs – rosemary, thyme, sage, basil, oregano (home-grown = better + budget-friendly 💰)

With this list, I can eat well all the time. You can mix it, cook it in different ways, and always enjoy a good meal!

I’m also very happy that my husband loves cooking —that’s a big plus! He usually prepares the protein, and I’m in charge of the side dishes, like salads, soups, or anything that fulfills the 3 macronutrients: proteins, carbs, and fats. The micronutrients are usually covered by vegetables, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, spices, herbs, etc.

To all my fellow vegans, vegetarians, plant-based eaters, pescatarians, etc.—I’m sure you have a wonderful Super-Food list 🌱, and I’d love to hear your recommendations too!

At the end of the day, food is a pleasure and a delight ✨. It’s a social experience—shared with family, friends, or at any kind of gathering. Food brings people together, but it’s important to keep a healthy balance.

So... do you have a “Super-Food List” too? 🤔 If so, what are your main ingredients? After reviewing your list, would you consider swapping some items for more nutrient-dense options?

To wrap up this post... I’m really eager to hear from you, my Nutty-Community! If you’d like to share your comments, thoughts, new recipes, etc., let’s exchange ideas and grow together on this topic.

Let’s reflect, share, and... let’s get nuts!! 🥳🥜

Wishing you all a great day!

Raquel
